Jeannette has been co-chair for the
past 20 years of the St. Bede’s Episcopal Church/St. Mary in Palms/Grace
Lutheran Church/Holy Nativity AIDS Ministry Project 5P21. This outreach
project makes homemade lunches for a number of AIDS/HIV patients at a local
hospital. Volunteers prepare sandwiches, deviled eggs, fresh fruit,
juices, cookies and candies. Fresh flowers from volunteer’s gardens are
always brought to decorate the tables. Volunteers deliver and serve the
lunches to approximately 24 patients at the Women’s and Children’s Clinic and
then continue on to the main clinic where another 48 patients are
served.
In addition, during the holidays the project distributes a gift bag for the adolescents and toys for the children. As co-chair, Jeannette ensures that the project details of lunch distribution are not overlooked and coordinates the transportation, and the details for the collection of goods and assembling the gift bags.
For the past 20 years, Jeannette has participated weekly at the Chinatown Library reading to children after school in their STAR program (Story Telling And Reading). For Jeannette, it has been a great joy to watch the little ones eager to read as well as wanting to share their stories with her.
Jeannette is a former kindergarten and first grade teacher with Los Angeles Unified School District.
