Clare Carey is an amazing "force of nature" as a parent-leader in the conversion of Walgrove Elementary’ s former bungalow area into the Walgrove Wildlands, as well as a leader in the Mar Vista/Venice School Green Team, which meets regularly and has members from all the school gardens in the area. In addition to these pursuits, she organized a team of teachers, students, and assorted volunteers to build a “cob bench” at the school made from, essentially, mud and straw. It provides a sacred space where students and teachers can come for quite reflection in the midst of their hectic, sometimes stressful day.
