Frances "Sparky" Sotcher is
the recipient of the Sierra Club's 2015 Madelyn Pyeatt Award honoring a Sierra
Club member who has made outstanding contributions through working with
youth. Sparky has been taking Los Angeles children out hiking and camping
in our local mountains for nearly 30 years with the Sierra Club's Inspiring Connections
Outdoors. Inspiring Connections Outdoors is a community outreach program
that provides opportunities for urban youth and adults to explore, enjoy and
protect the natural world. Sparky is also a longtime volunteer docent with Los
Angeles Audubon at the Ballona Ecological Reserve and is active with the local
Scandinavian folk dance community.
