Nancy and Glen Howell have lived in
Mar Vista raising their family since 1960.
Their two children were educated in Mar Vista schools, graduating from
Venice High School. Glen’s first career
was as an aerospace engineer at TRW.
After retirement he pursued the study of local history emphasizing the
history of Mar Vista. He was one of the
organizers of the Mar Vista Historical Society in which he continues to be an
active participant. Glen often gives
lectures on the history of Mar Vista. He was honored by Los Angeles City
Councilmember Bill Rosendahl with a City Certificate of Appreciation for his
commitment to preserving the history of the Mar Vista Community. You can give Glen the name of any street in
Mar Vista and he most likely will give you the history of that name.
Nancy has served the Mar Vista
Community as a school nurse; 20 years at Venice High School and at various Mar
Vista elementary schools. She is
presently the Block Captain for the Rose Avenue Neighborhood Watch Program.
Nancy and Glen have been active in
the Mar Vista Community Garden since its inception in 1977 where they grow most
of their food and they participate in the Garden’s recycling program.
They have also been active participants in
various committees of the Mar Vista Community Council.
