Craig Merlic


Dr. Craig Merlic is an organic chemistry professor at U.C.L.A. who has created two award-winning internet-based educational projects at UCLA.  His research focuses among many other projects  - applications of transition metal organometallic chemistry to organic synthesis. At the same time Dr. Merlic is a lifelong Scouter, committing his time to developing leadership and outdoor skills in our west side boy scouts.
As a youth, Craig Merlic attained the rank of Eagle Scout and has been committed to outdoor activities for his entire life.  In September 2004 he became the Cub master of Cub Scout Pack 42 in West Los Angeles.  Craig served as the Cub Master of Pack 42 through 2008 at which point he transitioned to Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 1 in West Los Angeles. Mr. Merlic has since that time served as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 1, also acting as outdoor activity coordinator.  Mr. Merlic has led Troop 1 on many an outing, from backpacking in the Sierras, to kayaking and camping in the Channel Islands, to camping in Death Valley.  
His dedication and leadership of our scouts 
makes Craig a Hero Among Us.
